"Organize.com was founded in 1998 by Terry Shearer, our President, as a retail store named Organize Everything. After a successful career in the insurance industry and owning several insurance agencies, Terry decided it was time for a change in the next phase of his life. After much research, combined with a personal interest in being ‘neat’ and a passion for gadgets, Terry became particularly intrigued with the world of storage and organization.
Terry created a strategy and business plan to open a convenient retail store to shop for storage and organization solutions. Since there were no other stores of its kind within 50 miles, the small business owner opened the doors of a 9,000 square foot retail store in Riverside, CA – just across from the local mall. It would be one of the first independently owned stores in Southern California dedicated to selling Storage and Organization products to help customers organize and simplify their lives. Terry, along with two full-time and eight part-time employees, set out to find thousands of products to ‘organize everything’, just as the name said. Every store associate was personally involved with purchasing, stocking and selling product – including Terry. If there was a new product to be added – it was almost like a decision in a ‘family meeting’.
In 1999, the Company decided to try selling a few items on the internet. To our delight – this turned out to be a pretty good thing. Two years later, we launched an additional site - HangerCity.com and then, TheStorageStore.com. Along with these additions, we developed several relationships with strategic partners. Our orders told us that our retail vision expanded beyond our brick and mortar store in the hometown of Riverside, to literally the ‘world of retailing’. Who ever dreamed that those first few Internet orders would pave the road of the future for Organize.com?
As online sales continued to grow, we outgrew our retail store. In July of 2003, Organize Everything added to the operation and opened a 42,000 square foot (and still growing) Internet Processing Center, just five miles from the original store. Our passion to offer high quality products at a reasonable price remained our goal, but our merchandising efforts then shifted to our website.
We created a “NEAT” storefront that now sits before our customer in the convenience of their own home or office, while they shop on the Internet. We focus daily on how we can make our customer’s shopping experience “Clean, Neat and Easy”. We continually update and improve our site, our content, services and the site’s functionality. Most of our decisions to make changes are based on the suggestions of our customers. We also continue to seek new and innovative products to offer our customers what they have come to know and expect from us. We test hundreds of product submissions each year looking for the ‘best of the best’, as well as developing our own products if we can’t find what we are looking for.
In 2005, Organize Everything acquired the name Organize.com, an easy name to remember that tells you just who we are. Today, this privately owned business operates with the same philosophy as the day our doors first opened. We continue to work with most of our original vendor’s, who have been more like friends to us.
Our amazing staff is the success of our business. We take great pride in their dedication and commitment. From Order Entry to the Shipping Department, each individual is committed to making sure each package we ship arrives looking like ‘the birthday present you always wanted’. If you walk into our warehouse, you will see a big sign over our shipping department that reminds us each day of just that."

About the Owners: Harold Maxwell and Shari (Maxwell) McConahay:
Shari (Maxwell) McConahay has literally grown up in the Halloween Costume business. Her parents started carrying costumes in their gift store in the early 1970's. Just as costumes have evolved since then, so has their family's business. In 1989, Harold and Hilda Maxwell closed their card and gift store (Annie's Cards and Gifts) and opened Annie's Costume and Magic. Annie was Shari's grandmother, mother to Harold, and "Nana" to all who knew and loved her. The couple decided to follow their passion for costumes as well as their hunch that costume sales and the popularity of Halloween would continue to grow. Shari worked at the costume store part time while in high school and college. Back in 1995 - 1996, during her time at the University of Miami and Nova Southeastern University, Shari developed AnniesCostumes.com for her parents' store while learning to use the computer. Shari graduated from Nova Southeastern University in 1998 with a bachelors in psychology, but decided to continue on with the growing Internet business she had started, rather than pursue a career in psychology. "Running a business requires that I use my skills in psychology everyday anyhow," is a quote Shari often speaks when asked about her idle degree.
In 1999 Extreme Halloween was born and Shari began to concentrate on the Internet business full time. Since then, the Extreme Halloween warehouse and office space has grown from 4,500 square feet to its current size at 18,000 square feet. The Extreme Halloween Network is made up of 13 different websites, the most popular is the original, www.AnniesCostumes.com, which is one of the most visited Halloween destinations on the web today. In 2003, Harold closed the retail store so that they could concentrate and grow their online business. Shari's husband, Michael McConahay joined the business that year as well and is the general manager for Extreme Halloween.
Harold and Shari attend numerous costume seminars and shows each year. They have both been members of the National Costumers Association (NCA - www.costumers.org) since 1989. They both attend the NCA's national convention annually, which includes classes on costumes and the costume business, costume showcases and competitions, as well as a great deal of camaraderie with other independent costume companies from all over the US and the world. Harold Maxwell is very highly respected among his peers and colleagues in the costume business and often thought of on an authority on costumes and the costume business. He served on the board for the NCA for 15 years and is the founder of the NCA's Buyers Group which provides its members better buying power through numbers. "
