FOREST PARK AVIARIES' EXOTIC BIRD SALES HEALTH ASSURANCE POLICY (Updated July 1st, 2008)
Once an exotic handfed pet or breeder bird moves from the direct management of Forest Park Aviaries to his/her new owner, clearly principal responsibility for the welfare of the bird passes into new hands. At the time of sale, we declare to our customers that our handfed pet-quality exotic birds and breeder birds do not suffer from any (at least known to Forest Park Aviaries at the point of sale) pre-existing health/life threatening condition or undeclared physical deformity. All our birds are closely inspected at the point of sale for any such defect at PIJAC-Certified Avian Specialist level, by this seller.
Our customers are strongly advised verbally and in print to obtain an appropriate health inspection of the exotic bird within 48-72 hours of completion of the transaction by their own professionally-qualified Avian Veterinarian of choice to validate the health & condition assurances provided by Forest Park Aviaries.
If the customer decides not to have such a health & condition examination performed within this 72-hour period, then the above "health guarantee" becomes null and void. That said, Forest Park Aviaries' overall policy is to maintain top-level relationships with all our exotic bird customers on a long-term basis.
In the very unlikely event that, within this 72 hour period, a bird purchased from Forest Park Aviaries is found by the Avian Veterinarian concerned to have some health condition likely to adversely and directly affect the future health and life expectations of the bird, then Forest Park Aviaries will agree to refund the full purchase price of the bird or, by mutual agreement, replace the bird with an alternative available avian species of equivalent price.
Important note: A move to a new home/environment can cause considerable stress on a bird, particularly a handfed pet youngster, and Pacific Parrotlets in particular. Such stress can promote the build-up of "negative gram bacteria", which can be readily treated based on the advice of your Avian Veterinarian, although such internal changes in the bird generally cannot be identified by checking the bird's external appearance or by routine visual/physical inspection. Our health assurances exclude such conditions which are outside the scope of management & control of Forest Park Aviaries. If for whatever reason the bird needs, by mutual arrangement, to be returned to Forest Park Aviaries, then such return will normally be at the customer's expense and would need to be accompanied by the Avian Veterinarian's complete health & condition report, duly verified & signed by the veterinarian concerned.
